From the city to the sea
After twelve years at the helm of Leeds' busiest kitchens, Maggie Firth returned to the salt-spray and slate of the Whitby harbour.

The long road home
Leeds taught Maggie the discipline of high-volume service, the precision of a busy pass, and the value of a perfectly prepped station. But the city was missing something.
In 2021, the call of the harbour became too loud to ignore. Harbour & Thyme was born from a desire to strip away the artifice of city dining and return to the primary ingredient.

Partners of the pier
Our menu isn't written in an office; it's written on the Pier Road dock at 6:00 AM. We wait for the local day boats: men who have fished these waters for generations.
When the hake is running, we serve hake. When the pots are full of Whitby crab and summer lobster, that's what's on your plate.
"We don't buy what we want. We buy what the sea gives us."

Local Boats
We buy from the day boats that dock 50 yards from our door.
Morning Landed
If it wasn't swimming at dawn, it isn't on our menu today.

Traditional recipes served with modern precision and care.
The Harbour
Our kitchen windows overlook the very water we fish from.
Come see what the boats brought in.
We're open Wednesday to Sunday on the Whitby pier. No reservation required for fish and chips at lunch, but we recommend booking for dinner.
